seeds of inequality

imagine that a squirrel walks into the forest one day and declares that every tree now belongs to him…. and that any other creature who wishes to use the trees, for any reason, must pay him rent to do so……

does that sound ridiculous to you? or, are you thinking “man, that’s one smart squirrel”?

does it seem “right” to you that some people own 2, 3, 4 or 14 homes, while other people don’t even have one to live in?

or do you justify that by saying that some people “work harder” and therefore “deserve” more than their fair share, even if it leaves nothing for other, less “hard working” people?

if the latter, what is your definition of “hard work”?

the truth is, some of the most physically hard working people (ditch diggers, hotel maids, daycare workers….) are also the lowest paid among you, while the “richest of the rich” actually do little to no work at all on a daily basis…. they make money simply because they have money, which most of them did not “work hard” to get.

maybe you think education and skill – being “smarter” than others – determines who gets what when limited resources are handed out….

but even that is relative….

a surgeon’s years of specialized training can maybe save a few lives in a hospital, but without the janitorial staff skillfully keeping the building clean and sanitary, no body’s chances of walking out alive are very good, no matter how many “skilled specialists” are present.

it’s even harder to understand why humans over value, and over pay for, entertainment, while shortchanging the basic essentials of life….

some actors and athletes are paid millions of dollars for doing nothing more than “playing”, while teachers, police officers, firemen, trash collectors and others responsible for maintaining daily human life in a comfortable manner, earn, at best, tens of thousands for all of their hard work.

does any of that seem “right” to you?

does it even make any logical sense?

oh, by the way, the other creatures of the forest realized that the squirrel had no real power over them, and they let him know that the forest belongs to NO ONE and the trees freely offer their resources to anyone who knows how to share and show respect for all life equally.
